`84 &`85 were 4 speed, and had different frames/swing arms.

`86-88 frames and swing arms.

`89-`99 frames and swing arms, some differences but not major.

`86 transmission had external clutch release arm, ball and ramp system for `87 and later models.

`84-`88 Had the old type starter setup, with the solenoid mounted to the inner primary cover.

`84-`89 Butterfly type carb.

`86-`89 Tapered mainshaft, clutch hubs.

Inner and outer primary covers changed several times.

`90 First year for splined mainshaft, clutch hub.

Fuel tanks changed for `92.

Primary and starter gear ratios changed for `94 and later models.

Cylinder heads changed for `92.

Cases changed for `93, head breather configuration.

Control housings and switches changed for `96 models and later.

Transmission trap door and bearings changed for `99.

A lot of parts are interchangeable, but don`t assume all Softails are the same.

Marco,
Marco, do you still have these parts (90 FLSTF derby and timer cover)?

Good info. I would add the primary cover you need is 89-93.
