Default Buffing Out my Paint Job

Ok....so I painted my tanks for the first time....got my primer...base coat....logo, clear coat....

all that's left now is buffing it all out.

Anybody have any tips for me?

It's a lot smoother than just the paint, but I need to get that glass feel.

Thanks fellas

Try Wet sanding with 1200 paper then move to 1600 or 2000 followed by a light buffing with a fine buffing compound.

you don't think that will scratch the clear? I tried using 600 wet on the clear and it just scratched it all to hell and I had to start over.

thanks man, I appreciate it.

when i paint stuff i use 2000 grit, then buff with a mico finish compound, the grit of the paper would depend on how much orange peel is in the paint. good luck and be careful!

Yea do like Mike says, I use 1600-2000 grit, use lots of water. Then use a good polish like Mcguires and buff it out. It'll look like glass when your done. I've painted a few cars and the results are great!

Gotta go with that. Remember Wet Sanding means Wet Sanding. Don't press; let the sand paper do the work; your hands just move it around. To much pressure will really wreak havoc.

You never did mention the type of paint your using?? there are quite a few types with different properties and most pain manufacturers maintain a website with pretty good instructions from prep to finish. Lots of water during the process and letting the paper do the work will result in a baby-butt smooth finish.
