Default 2007 Fatboy wheels on a 2006 FXST....mission accomplished!

I finally finished up my wheel swap today. These are factory chrome "upgrade" wheels from a 2007 Fatboy. For the front I had to deal with 2 separate issues. First, the offset of the FB wheel was different than my FXST. I tried using my original spacers but this put the wheel off-center and put the rotor too close to the caliper. After several mock ups with different spaces I determined that a 5/32" offset would make everything centered and keep my brakes aligned too. I took my spacers to a local machine shop and had them make me some new ones. I had 5/32" added to the rotor side spacer and had 5/32" taken off the other side. The other issue was the axle diameter. The 07's had a 25mm front axle and my 06 still had a 3/4". I had a couple of 1"O.D.x3/4" I.D. bronze bushings laying around so I turned them down to 25mm O.D. to use as bearing spacers for the time being. My winter project will be to get the correct 3/4" bearings installed and new spacers (if needed due to the difference in width of the 25mm and 3/4" bearings).

The rear wheel installation had obstacles also. Apparently 06 "FX" Softails require rear axle spacers that are different than every other 2000-2007 Softail. Simple solution.....get a set of rear spacers for the 07 FB that the wheels came off of. I scored a set of the fancy "domed" chrome spacers on eBay for $20. My stock FXST wheel is 1/2" wider at the hub than the FB wheel is so the new drive side spacer is 1/2" wider than my stock spacer was. And with the new axle spacer I had to get a 1/2" spacer for my drive pulley to get my belt lined up. I'm not sure how any other years are offset so this information pertains to 06 and 07 only.

Overall I am extremely happy with the outcome. Now all I need is to figure out a front fender. I'd rather not go with the big bulky FB or Heritage style. I want to find something similar to the stock fender on the FXDF Fatbob's. For now I'm going to ride it the way it is until snow finally ends my riding season.

And yes, I know that my cables/wiring/handlebars are a mess. I have some new bars to go on this winter and I'll do the wiring internally.

Reviving an old thread, I know.
But, that 5/32 spacer differential has been driving me bananas! EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Thank you, OP, and God bless HDForums!

Very nice. Love those iconic Fat Boy wheels! Let us see when you get the front fender.
