Generally, custom paint could even detract from the value, but since it's Harley custom paint & particularly nice, it may add. I think it's a great looking bike, very tastefully done, always have liked it when I saw it posted here, & I would pay a grand over value for that paint. But that's me.

NADA is $ 6400 to $ 8000. Aftermarket paint, engine mods etc usually dont add anything to the resale value other than catch someones eye and maybe make them pick yours over the other. But usually no more $.
Dealer trade in will probably be at or below $ 6000. If your going to sell it as already said take what you can off and sell on EBay, event the paint set if you have the stock tins.
Or better yet keep it and buy a second bike

I wouldn't use NADA as a gauge to price a bike for sale. A 5 year old Chevy truck, sure. But, these bikes have a weird market. I think someone would pay more for a Harley that they fall in love with more-so than a cage, when making a purchase.
The way these bikes sell, if NADA said 7k today for a 2003, a seller could get damn near that same price 5 years from now, for the same clean bike, selling to a private party. Very seldom do you see a Harley for sale under 6K, regardless of the age, unless it's just a total pile of crap. They seem to hold value better long-term.
But, you're right about keeping it. Sometimes when you crunch the numbers it's just better in the long run to keep it.
