Pretty small rack, with (as I recall) just one mounting point in the rear. Wouldn't expect it to hold much. It might hold a T-bag that has strapped to a sissy bar. For me, I bought an Ebay, knockoff tour pack and attached it to the Harley tour pack rack. Big enough for a two up overnighter if you pack light.

The stock rack is actually pretty strong but small. It has three mounting points.

I already have a sissy bar medium height but I know most racks have a 10 lb limit...in my sporty that was way exceeded and was fine but the rack mounted to the sissy bar plates different from the deluxe

I haven't had one for the Deluxe, but had MoCo racks for a Wide Glide and a RK. Grossly overloaded both of them with a T-Bag for a few 3,000+ mile trips riding 2 up. Never had an issue, just use some common sense when strapping it on the bike. Things could go horribly wrong if you don't, no matter whose you buy. I need to get one for my Heritage and I will buy another one from the MoCo when I do.

I have a 2011 Deluxe and the rack is hard to tie something down on it. There are no extra places to hook a bungie too. I have found it to be more trouble than its worth until I bought my HogDeluxe saddlebags. Which back rest are you using that you cannot use saddlebags?

Default Rack

I use the luggage rack on my '09 Deluxe all the time and have never had an issue. I use a HD backpack and fill it with around 10 lbs. -- bungee it to the sissy bar -- and it works great. Might not look cool, but it gets the job done......SJ Ron

I put way more than 10 lbs on the sportys luggage rack..more like 30-40 and rode across us 7201 miles with no issue..i hope the deluxe rack performs the same
