Default Hmmm! I dunno

So my 90 heritage softail runs like a champ but is hard to start it will back fire then fire right off, then when you turn the ignition off it will decompress like your blowing down a diesel I'm confused has anyone experienced these problems before it just started put a new switch in, coil, wires, plugs, and battery I'm at a loss some advice would be much appreciated.

Did you put a double or single fire coil in it? That sounds like the culprit if you only changed out the items listed.

The problem started before or after you made the changes? The hard starting could just be the idle mixture screw needs tweaking, or possibly the carb needs cleaned. You said it's backfiring, so it could be flooding.

if it the stock ignition, the backfire/pop on starting is pretty common. scares the beejeezus outta people standing around, and make s it real obvious the ones who never heard of anything other than a twin cam engine
