Default Removing Oil Tank: Do I Need any Specialty Tools?

Removing the oil tank on my 2007 Softail Custom to get to my starter.

Service manual says I need 'Oil Line Removal Tool', p/n HD-44455.

Is this tool necessary, or can I get away without it?

Any other tips/tricks?

Thanks

You don't need that tool, just squeeze the sides of the clips on the oil lines, and remove them gently with a screwdriver.. if you ruin them, oh well, they're cheap.. a lot cheaper than that tool is..although if you choose to use the tool, you may be able to find them cheaper at a local auto parts store, or Sears or something.. that's the only odd tool I can think of

Do I simply squeeze the clips, then pull outward?

Or are they threaded, requiring me to squeeze the clips and turn?

Thanks

It's a squeeze & pull... pretty much the same as a fuel filter on a car.... they make a multi-fit tool kit at autozone & such for a few bucks.... you'd be better off running down to your local autoshop and purchasing it.

finger pull works fine.
I did have a little rust around the o-ring seat on my 03 , I put a little 3 in one oil on the fittings, and they pulled out easy.
