Default First Year Softail. 1984 FXST

Just finished up a partial restore on my 1984 FXST. These are the first EVO and Softail models Harley came out with. It still used the old Shovelhead 4 speed transmission with kick starter.

I wanted to put it back to as close to stock as reasonably possible. Most of the stuff was cosmetic. I sanded out the rock chips on the frame and resprayed the back half. Blasted and redid the original skins in the factory color/striping. Stripped and repainted the hand controls and wrinkle black parts for the foot controls. The seat is original 84. The slip on mufflers are pre-Screamin Eagle factory ones with a -84 part number. I replaced all the hoses with correct HD hose and factory pinch clamps. Spent alot of time buffing all the aluminum, as HD hadn't perfected the chroming process when this model came out.

I'm pleased at how it turned out, it's fun to see original looking models still around.

WOW! That thing is older than I am and just looks great! Good work! If you wouldn't have said it was an '84 I would have never guessed. I guess Harley's really are "timeless."

Same boat here, and I completely agree, that bike is slick. Doesn't need any aftermarket parts added or mods - it looks perfect the way it is...
Hmmm, I didn't know it came with an S&S Carb originally ;-)
I hope to get an EVO Softail someday.

Great job bud, looks as good as new. Good friend of mine still has the 84 softail he bought new. He has over 200,000 miles n it now. He bought an 05 bagger new and already has 88,000 miles on that ride.

That will bring you Miles of Smiles
