Question 16" Apes - Wedding Anniversary HELP - 2010 FLSTFB

I'm not going to lie, my husband is spoiled...and our anniversary is the end of this month, and I'm having a little trouble with his gift. I'm a total motorcycle girl, having road for many a years.. Here's the problem - He wants 16" Apes (Black) and I'm ready to start ordering pieces parts, but every place I call gives me different answers. Can ya'll help? What exactly are ALL the pieces/parts I'll need? And if you've done this to your bike...and have a list, brand, model, etc...that'd be awesome.

I know the bars, wiring, someone said a neutral switch, will his original black controls work or do I need to purchase more based on wiring length, etc. I'd really appreciate the help!

Thanks so much,
Buellchick

It can get kinda complex. My suggestion is to call this guy, he carries Bars, Cables, everything you should need and should be able to guide you on which parts to buy.

Good Luck

Bars, throttle and idle cable, clutch cable, front brake line, polyurethane riser bushings, wiring extensions and make sure you get bars that are not stepped down for the risers as your bike has 1.25" risers where a lot of Halrey's have 1" risers. If you find bars that are stepped down to 1" you can get a riser adapter for 1.25" risers. That should be all you need. length of cables depends on what brand bars you get.

Bars
Grips
Throttle/idle cable (extended)
Clutch cable (extended)
Break cable (extended)
Wiring extension kit (unless he’s soldering them all himself)
Risers
Polyurethane bushings
DOT4 break fluid (for the new cable)
Transmission fluid (for when you crack the tranny cover open to replace the clutch cable)
Cable lube (new cables need it)
Exhaust gaskets (for when you have to get at the transmission cover and remove the exhaust)

I think that’s it.

You can always call Dr. V-Twin….They know what’s up.

Fellas add to it if I missed anything!

All of these things. He's also going to need a black fuel line clamp, tranny side cover gasket, some banjo washers(if the brake line doesn't come with any) and now would be a good time to switch to black levers if he hasn't already.

Also if I had to guess, the cables would all be around a +10 length over your stock cables.

This is where I got everything from, great guys great service. Don't forget to get a set of polyurethane risor bushings. Call them up they will take care of everything you need. Internally wired plug and play, it's easy and worth the money IMO.

+ 1 on this. These guys know what's up and you can save a few bucks with ordering a kit. If you have a good idea of everything he wants they can really help out.

Man, You are an awesome wife. Mine just doesn't get me with this stuff. I had to deposit A LOT into the "wife bank" to get this stuff. What a lucky guy.
