Throttle body Cleaning

Throttle body Cleaning
hey guys. I ride my FXS is really dusty/dirty places ...unfortunately... I clean my air filter (stock) frequently with compressed air. I have noticed that the throttle body insides are getting coated with dust. It seams that there is a layer of some type of oil that most of the dust has been sticking to on the inside, around the valve and on the valve. Does this mean that dust is getting into my motor? and if so, will it come out the exhaust or cause problems? I tried wiping some of the dust out with a paper towel, but didn't want to remove all of the oil for future dust to stick on instead of going into my motor. What's the scoop here? Can I replace the oil with something bought in a store?? Is that what the layer of grease/oil is for inside of the throttle body? Also, will getting a big breather for my stage one be worse for filtering dust from getting into the motor?
Thanks

The oil film you see in the throttle body is from the engine breathers. It is not something put there intentionally to stop dust from entering your engine, but rather a by-product of the engine breathers, so cleaning it out poses no problem.
As for the dust in the throttle body, in a perfect world you wouldn't want any of that, but in the real world it's unavoidable. And yes, some of that is going in your engine. Is it hurting anything? That depends on how much. If you ride in extremely dusty conditions regularly, the engine (cylinder walls and piston rings) will probably wear at a higher rate than an engine running in cleaner conditions. Is there anything you can do about it? Not really, other than cleaning your air filter on a regular basis.

if its that dusty, for a cheap possible fix you may want to try and find a foam wrap for the filter like those that are on a lawn mower engine. if you can't find one to go around the filter, you may be able to make one up yourself out of home airconditioning seal foam. spray it lightly with some AF oil or maybe even wd40. leaving the filter a little dirty may help in stopping some of the finer particles through.

Extreme conditions require a lil more time and elbow grease to keep clean. First off pull the ac off, then the backing plate. Wrap the throttle body with rags and then spray a throttle body cleaner inside. Dont overdue it, just enuff to removed the tarnished oil/fuel deposit. Clean the backing plate and reinstall as the same with the filter.
Have no idea what filter setup you're using but an open element such as the K&N with a rain sock would cut down alot of that dust.

A stock AC is not great at keeping out the crud. Go with a K&N oiled filter and put a HD rain sock on it and you will keep 90% more dust out of that TB. I had the same issues with the stock filter and football and decided to change to the stage one open filter. The white Harley filter was still letting dust in so I swapped it out for the K&N and just added the rain sock for dust and water protection. Works great.
