Default hey guys,.. help with identification of this part on my 2012 deluxe...

hey guys,

so i had the bike up on lift today. dropped it down and noticed some "oil" on the lift rubber area.. did some investigation and found this "tube/flexible pipe" with nothing connected to it.. could not find it in the service manual anywhere. wondering should it have something connected to it?? or is it some type of vent tube/ drain tube?

feel stupid even asking, but could not locate anyplace it might actually connect to if there were another section of pipe/tube missing? any info would be great! thanks! picutres below.

You could possibly trace it back to it's origin. Looks like a vent tube to me.

not positive, but I think that is the overflow tube from the gas tank. I overfilled mine and im pretty sure I saw fuel coming out of it...you could always overfill your tank and check it out haha

LOL... if it were a chain.. that would be pretty cool.. i think the other guys gave me a clue.. thought it was oil, but could have easily been fuel.. and from page 4-10 in the service manual there is a "vent line" from fuel tank, that seems to look just like what i am seeing.. so i will keep an eye on it, but i think it is the fuel vent line. and after putting it up on the j&s jack, it rocked the bike a bit and i bet some fuel sloshed around tank and ran down that vent tube... or at least i think so...

Yeah, that's the Continious Vent Line. Figure 4-8 item (12) under the Fuel Tank shows exactly what you took a pic of.

If you remoce the seat you should see the other end of that hose running out from under the tank and down through the frame, just forward of the battery bucket. As stated it is the overflow/vent for the tank.

You probably filled your tank at the service station while you were sitting (upright) on the bike and didn't use up enough gas before you got off of the bike.
I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago.

This is a good thing to do on a trip as it gives you a little miles of travel.

thanks guys! i think the sloshing around of fuel in the full tank when i rocked it up on the lift caused some fuel to exit the vent line.. and the vent line was right over one of the lift arms.. so it dripped on the arm and then ran under the frame a bit.. thanks again!
