Default Ape Hanger Cable Help

Been wanting apes since my last bike, and on my 3rd set of drag-type bars on current Fatboy - finally went and bought a set to get the style and feel I wanted. Still waiting on bars to arrive, but I ordered a set of 14 inch 1.5" Crush Tube Apes, 1.7" risers, Wild One hidden bolt top clamp, and even got new grips. I have not purchased cables yet - thinking of a Burly 14" kit with all cables and wire extensions, but also considering just buying cables separately (just don't want to spend $300+). I am going with the chrome bars and want to stay with the black cables - I really like my bars to look as clean as possible and think black cables are less noticeable against the chrome bars.

I saw some threads from Sportster owners saying the Burly kit cables run long. I know I need the necessary length to allow full turn of bars, but want to route cables between bars and tank, and do not want extra long cables. Is the Sportster issue specific to that bike or do you Softail/Fatboy owners see the same extra long cables? Wondering if I should go with the 12" kit instead? Current bars are very low, but I have had two sets of 10" tall drag bars with 6 - 9 " pullback and stock cables fit fine. Does anyone know how much longer over stock the Burly 12 or 14" cables are? I have read several posts stating 14" apes should run +6 cables and others +4 - internet can be great, but also confusing.

Thaks for any help, and here is a pic of the Crush Tube apes I got - can't wait to get them on the bike.

I used the Burly cable kit to install my 14" Outlaws, the cables are a long but I'm using 1.5" risers instead of the recommended 2". The clutch cable could stand to be shortened an inch or two, the throttle cable is on the edge of being too long, the idle cable is perfect. The Outlaws dont have much pullback (4") if you have more, that will help wth the cable lenght.

This might help.

http://magnumshielding.com/store/app_search.php

they also have a guide ( http://www.magnumshielding.com/store/tips.php ) on how to measure your factory cables if needed, and you can base the length of your new cables on that.

It was very helpful for me.
