I got the same thing after putting a new cable on for my apes this weekend. I was wondering if there is a little too much fluid in there and once it seeps out to the right level if it will stop leaking. However, I suppose a new seal wouldn't hurt either.

I Had the same problem. I replaced the cap and tightened the screws just enough to not bulge out the gasket. Been ok for almost a year. I suspect I'll be doing it again in the future.

What Jamo1911 says. New cap, new seal and don't tighten too much. If you tighten the cap too much you distort the seal and get a seeping leak.

It was a common problem. The new seals are updated from the stock ones. Mine leaked a week after I got the bike new. Fix it fast, tjat fluid loves to eat paint. Trust me, I know..

Yup, changed mine too. Just tighten to snug, and a 1/4 turn more. If you start to see a bulge anywhere, you've gone to far. You might get a drop or 2 out of the breather holes for the first few miles........

I had to replace the cap on my 2011 and it still leaked. Switched dealers and their service manager (25 years experience) told me for some reason the chrome caps don't seem to leak as easily as the black ones. Replaced with a chrome one and hasn't leaked in over 5000 miles. Also, yes the screws are not put on very tight at all, I forget the torque specs in the service manual but it is minimal.

As some of the other folks noted...it is a common, STUPID HD problem, like many others...as they said, put a new seal on and DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. This is one of those times that more is NOT better. I know, I tried the more is better...don't work!

As others have said, get the revised reservoir cover. It has a much firmer gasket which does not deform as easily. Don't over tighten. Also, make sure both the gasket and reservoir are absolutely dry. You can use denatured alcohol to clean up the gasket and top of reservoir. I also purposely under-fill the reservoir slightly.
