Default Dunlop 407 tire wear indicator

2012 fatboy with 6000mi on original Dunlop 407 rear tire. The owners manual says "replace when the horizontal tire wear indicator wear bars become visible". Does that mean that the wear bars are imbedded in the tire and will appear to indicate tire replacement time? Never did see any wear bars on tire when new. Does anybody have any advice?

They are embedded in the tread...here's a link with some pretty good pictures of them showing time to start looking at replacing the tire!

Default wear bars

I believe if you look on the tire you will find an arrow indicating where the wear bar is located. Not the tire rotation arrow, the wear bar arrow points toward the outer edge of the tire.
