Question Carlini Apes , Gangster or Flying ?? Let's see them

One of the Mod's I am doing this winter is getting a set of 16 " , 1.25" Carlini Apes but am not sure which ones I want to purchase ?? The Flying Apes or the Gangster . Looking to get the 16 " Gangster or the 14" Flying Apes as they run an inch taller than advertised .
These will be put on a 92 Heritage .

If you have Carlinis on your Heritage post a picture of them , Help me make up my mind ........
Thanks

RR

I had the 16" 1.5" diameter Flying apes. Just took them off and will make a heck of a deal on them.

PM sent fireman.

I like the evil apes a lot, but for what I'm going for I think gangsters would look better on my sled. Can't go wrong either way

I have had both (currently have the Flying apes on a Deluxe). The biggest difference between the two is the pullback. The Flying apes bend towards you so there is more pullback but you can minimize the pullback by simply rolling the bars forward. Both are very nice. FYI, my 16" Flying apes actually measure 17.5". Mind if I ask you why your removing them Fireman? I'm just curious. I am looking to go with the 16" 1.5" gangsters this winter but still a little on the fence about it. I want all the info I can possible get on apes before I make the move. I am affraid they will aggravate the shoulder and back issues I am having. I love the look, just not sure how well my body is going to like them!!!

I like the 1.5 thick bars. They look better and the flow from the Forks looks seemless. Heres mine with 18 inch Gangsters 1.5 thick. They do run taller. The 18s are more like 20s

My vote for the Flying Apes.... As has already been stated, allow the room for the extra inch or so in height. Not sure what bike they are going on, but the fatter bikes and bigger ones look best with the 1.5 inch bars. If it is a wide glide front end or those type like the rocker, than the 1.25 are a better match up.

Good luck!

For me, it was one of the best mods I've done for comfort. Bars are very subjective and fit different depending on height, arm length, and even style of riding. I tried to take everything into account instead of just listening to others opinions. I'm 5'6" so someone taller or with longer arms can accomodate bars different than me. I've had several back surgeries with hardware and both shoulders operated on as well. I tried to hang in with drag bars even changing for a different set with more rise and pull back but it just wasn't cutting it. For me, the best ridng position is sitting straight up or slightly leaning back with my arms at shoulder height and a slight bend in my elbow. I went with the 12" Flyin Apes which are about 13-13.5 inches tall and these put my hands right at shoulder height. The difference was amazing for me.
