Default Need to find correct trip reset ****

Hi all,

I am trying to fix my trip reset so i can tell when i need gas on my 89 softail custom. I just bought two different ***** from ronnies mail order on their microfiche: http://www.shopronniesharleydavidson...-82772-H030235

They came in and did not fit. It seems that its the correct part, but it does not fit my speedo for some reason. My speedo trip reset is a small male thread recessed inside the speedo housing. I need something with small female threads to grab it. Neither of the parts from ronnies had those. heres some pics

i previously assumed this speedo to be stock, and still believe it is. my father bought it in 1991 and likes to keep stuff like that original....

Are you sure that's a 89'? The parts blowup looks like my 94', or your stem is sheared off.

interesting..... like i said im not positive its stock but im very close to positive. the sheared off theory would make sense as to why it wasnt there.... however, the trip meter is free and i could reset it easily with needle nosed pliers...

i sent a link of this thread to ronnies (who i ordered the '89 ***** from that didnt work). they said they found something they thought might work and sent it free of charge. so, props to them. hopefully itll work! i will update when i get it

might find a rubber gromlet to fill the hole.
the reset button on our 07 is completely covered with a rubber cover.

They make all sizes of Gromlets to pick from or,,, U might call Ur dealer to see if it had one from the factory and the Org just got lost or dried up and fell apart, if so U might get one from Ur dealer.

Might try the local hardware store, auto parts store or even the local "Radio shack" as they carry rubber gromets, also.
