How did you extend your wires? Did you cut and solder or did you use a Canbus extension? I am being told if I cut and solder the wires coming from the switch housings on this bike I could fry my circuit board. I seached and found a thread about Canbus wiring and understand how it is data flowing over twisted pair wiring to a control board. Would extending the wires require me to spice the Canbus wires or just the outputs? My turn sigs have already been located to my forks so those are a non issue. Thanks for the help

2010 and below you can cut and solder

2011 and up it's best to buy the harness extensions

I have a 2011 and used a harness extension from Namz. Very simple plug and play. No need to cut, splice, or take apart any connectors.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Could one or some of you post up the general procedure you followed when you did your bars? I am really wanting to save me the $600 HD is going to charge me. This is what I would have to buy for the install:

Tranny fluid
Throttle/Idle cable
Clutch Cable
Brake cable
Namz extension
All purpose grease for the three ball bearings in the trans cover
Exhaust gasket for when I remove the exhaust to get to the tranny cover

I am cloudy when it comes to the wires. I know I have to move the tank rearward to get to the connector, right? My turn sigs have been relocated so I don't have to deal with those I am assuming. Am I suppose to remove the wires from the connector and pull these out of the bars with the switch housings? When I do this, how does the Namz extension come into play when reassembling?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.

If you have 2011 or newer the connectors for your controls are small enough to through the bars with out taking them apart. The Namz extensions just plug right in and extend your wires with a new plug. much easier the on the older bikes.

I would recommend removing the gas tank. It makes so much easier to run your throttle cables and clean up any excess wiring.
