I did mine before i swapped the dash.
It's a easy cheap mod that makes a big difference in the appearance.

 

Very nice, I'm considering taking my wife's chrome dash and doing a similar look, probably do just the top area. When you scuffed the chrome was it to remove most of the shine or was it done lightly?

 

I didnt scuff the chrome at all.....the area where i painted is textured anyway.
I never had a problem with paint coming off.
I used satin black paint and blue painters tape to mask it up.

 

Looks nice, I have the same dash piece and am doing the exact opposite to mine, leaving the textured part chrome and blacking out the rest

 

I've been looking to do the same thing, I think I'll have to try it this weekend.

 

I wish I would've thought of that - I painted my whole panel black, and taking the seat on and off rubbed off the paint.

So I bought the expensive billet tank panel, and had it PC'd black. Your idea is way better.

 

I know this is an old thread, but I did the opposite. I picked up one of these panels and then removed the black metallic stickers off my dash so its all chrome just like the tank panel. Took all the parts off the dash first then used acetone. to remove all the glue after I peeled the black off. I like the all chrome dash I even took off the black around the ignition switch.
