Default Brake light works front brake lever...doesn't work with when rear brake depressed

Brake light comes on when I pull the front brake lever. No brake light when pushing the rear brake lever. Tail light works fine.

Any ideas on this one?

Pressure switch probably took a dump. Easy fix.

Any tips on replacing it?

I have my manual...but sometimes tips are better.

Some models have a recall due to exhaust melting the rear switch.

Not a lot of room to work in down there, but it just unscrews and screw in a new one. A little pipe sealant. You may get away without having to bleed the brakes.

Yeah...noticed not a lot of room. What a dumb design. and pretty crappy that it only lasted 4 years.

Don't see how you don't have to bleed the brakes. the manual says put a catch can down, unscrew old one, screw in new one (with sealant) and then bleed.

If there is any fluid loss, that means air in the line.

Thanks for the info.

Could be a wiring issue, pull off both leads, and put a jump wire in between the two leads with the ignition on, brake light should come on.
If so switch is bad, if not then it is a wiring problem.
The switch is designed to be taken out with a deep socket, and yea you need to bleed the system, not a bad idea to replace the fluid if it has not been done lately.
This is a pretty easy task.

All useful information. Much appreciated.
I disconnected the wires from the rear tail light switch, hooked them together as suggested in this thread, and the tail light worked.
That rules out a wiring problem. The switch is bad.
Thank you guys so much... this form is awesome...
