Default Transmission mainshaft bearing failure

Hiya I must have the unluckiest harley last year the inner cam bearing went . This year the transmission bearing has go if i am lucky the mechanic said it might just be the bearing behind the clutch basket . I am waiting for the local indie to pick it up and give me the news . HD labour alone was going to be £500 before any parts . Have any one out there have this happen and at what cost$$$$$$$ thanks guys from England

Sorry to hear of your luck Billy. Are you a handy kind of person? The trans on these bikes are really simple. There really aren't that many parts. It used to be something I would never take apart. After having one apart and back together, I have no more worries.

Parts though, are expensive from HD. I would be buying parts aftermarket and save the money.

Mine went out, cost $1,200 to repair. Some of the ball bearings got into the tranny and made a mess. Make sure they take a hard look at the mainshaft. I was told, and later confirmed, that when the bearing fails the resulting stress on the mainshaft tends to warp it. If not replaced, it will cause the new bearing to fail rather quickly. They replaced my mainshaft, all of the internal bearings, the shift drum and a few lesser parts.
