I think maybe they specify a higher pressure in anticipation of 2 up? I'm not sure. I am at 7000 miles now, and my rear tire is almost even with the wear bars in the center. It has more life on the sides, but I think that is normal unless you live on a mountain road. My front tire still has lots of life. I think I am going to replace the rear with the Dunlop 250/40/18. It seems reasonably priced and should fill the fender a little more.

The 240 looks great on the BO, and the 250 will look even better.

I got 9000 miles on my first rear tire, but no way I'll get that with the one that's on there now.

I was keen on trying a set of Michelin Commander II's, but they don't have the 130 front tire, so I'll stick with the Harley Dunlop for now.

Looking to buy a new rear to have it in hand when it gets to the shield wear indicator and note that the original part number 43242-06A has been superseded by the 43242-06B - I cant find what changes were made.

Looks like Surdyke have the best pricing after shipping added.

Look at tires places other than Harley. There are 2 Dunlops in your size to chose from here that are $50 less than what you are looking at.

I would not buy tires from Harley.

I was seriously considering other tires, but would like a matching set and that's where the plan falls flat, I can't find a 130 front in other brands/options.

I don't think the one you are linking to is the same model as the 130/60/21 anyways. Just the same brand. I would go with the Dunlop Elite on Dennis Kirk if you are stuck on the brand.

My first preference would be the Michelin Commander II, but having difficulty find MCII, or any other brand with a suitably wide front tire.

What front tire do you plan on using?

I am just going to stick with the stock Dunlop for now as it is not wearing very fast. For the back I will use the 250 Dunlop which is an Elite 3.
You could also run a 120/70, or a 140/70/21. Those are the only other sizes I know of for the front.

Been thinking about doing this myself when it's time for new tires. Would be nice if the matching BO rear wheel would fit but that's not gonna happen.

Nice read and info. would be nice to create some pics and parts list on a sticky? I for one will be doing this wheel/tire change out if and when I buy a Custom. Thanks for sharing, please post more pics.
