2005 FXST biggest rear tire without mods?
Hi all
Just wanting to benefit from forum knowledge ...
I'm currently running a 150/80 - 16 71 H tire on the rear (HD Stock configuration) ...
My question is what is the widest biggest tire you could run without mods?
Just curious as I have to change tires in a few miles ....
Thanks in advance ....

You should be able to squeeze a 160 in there but you need a wider rim. 18x4.25 with a 160/60/18. Double check clearance on the indie of the fender and flip the strut mount bolts around if need to be for additional clearance.
Also double check the clearance between the top of teh tire and bottom of the fender as if you run lowered it can rub the wires to the brake light and cause issues. Most people route the wiring along the channel where the side and top of teh fender come together.
A 160 tire is too wide for your stock 3" rim.

the Dunlop 150 CruizerMax I had before was almost 160 in reality , I know the 160 Metz would fit for some.
I have reversed the bolts of fender not to rub.
But since I lowered the bike and I wisened up on the 'fat tire phenom' .. I am planning a back to the future 130 Gangster on the rear, the skinny tires are all the rage now.

I'm happy with the handling of the 150 rear, this is just a purely cosmetic change on my part. Then if I look at lowering, rub points wiring would become an issue as well ....

I ran a 160/80/16 Metz on the stock (16x3) rim of my 05 Train. It does make a slight visual difference. The 160 has a taller sidewall which tucks the wheel up under the fender more and it is slightly wider. From what I have read though, different manufacturers have slightly different ideas of what size a "160" tire is. Some run bigger than others. I know Metz used to recommend the 160 as a size upgrade, which is why I decided to switch to it.
Have recently gone back to the 150 so my front and rear would match.
