Brake Pads
#11
One thing in this vid ABOVE,,, I don't agree with is the .016" replacement. Thats only 5 sheets of paper thick,, whick it not very much.... NO way would I run with pads that thin..
I use the thickness of a Quarter to gauge when to change them Or.. about .050ths
Also too thin of pads will fade easier than thicker newer pads. causing your rotors to overheat and warp..
Also if the pads are not worn perfectly flat you could damage the Rotors,, which will cost you a lot more $$$$ than replacing them VS the pads..
New pads vary between .135'' to .180'' depending on what yr bike and what pad you buy.
I've had my rears replaced 3 times and the front once in 47K..
Rear pads.. replaced at--
15K-(HD pads)-
30k (pads my Indy sold,, didn't like them at all. replaced them 33k with (Lyndalls Z's and they are still on, still have more wear and I really like them as they make 75% less dusting on the wheels..
Fronts should last longer than the rears do.. I replaced my front pads at 30k (Lyndalls Z's and they are still on at 47k
Brake pad wear depends so much on How you ride and where you ride...
I've read some who live in the hills only get 5k out of rear Brake pads and tires Vs someone like here in Indiana where we have Flat and straight roads can get 3 to 4 times the mileage out of tires and pads...
hope this help you and others..
