Tank MATH Help....wtf its buggin me
this sounds like a HS math test question...sorry.
i have a 2 inch tank lift on my bones (front) and 1/2 inch lift on the back (seat).
i know my fuel reading is jacked and i go by miles now to figure out when to fill up. but does anyone know what a tank lift does to the fuel needle display? with the lift, does the fuel display now show more or less fuel than i actually have?
someone asked me and i had no clue (and didnt care) but now this stupid question is bugging me.
anyone know?
ride safe.

I have a 2" lift. When mine is showing "empty" I actually have about 4 liters left. (1 gallon) the gauge on the tank is always wrong and shows less than what you have.

The float is toward the front of the tank on the left side, so raising it should mean it will read low (just like riding uphill your level will decrease and vice versa). However, the fuel pickup is also toward the front half of the tank on the left, so with the lift you will have less fuel available for use than before. Your total miles before being stranded will be lower than with the stock tank position.
Like was said though, the stock gauges are notoriously inaccurate even when brand spanking new.

DK Customs had a FAQ page somewhere (can't find it now) that basically said that the reserve light comes on around 1 gallon left in the tank. Since most people utilize their trip meter/odometer, the actual difference is about a quarter of a gallon. Figure maybe 10 miles on the average HD. So, just fill up 10 miles sooner than you normally do.
