Default 2011 Deluxe removal of oil tank - advice!

Hi all,

I removed the stock chrome oil tank from my 2011 Deluxe yesterday, using the Service Manual. It was pretty straightforward until the last step, "remove oil tank from right side of vehicle."

It was a PAIN to get thank tank out, mainly because of the fuse block and wiring to the rear of the tank, in front of the mud guard (which I removed per Service Manual).

I had to lift up the wiring harness (wrench out is more like it) that circles the frame above the oil tank in order to get the tank out. It felt like I was really yanking on the wiring to make clearance for the rear of the oil tank to clear the frame and wiring to get it out.

Now I'm worried I'll have to really tweak stuff to get the tank back in after I PC it. Did I miss a step, or read the manual wrong? Or is it a PITA normally?

Thanks

It is a tight fit for sure, I took all the tiestraps and clamps off the harness to get enough space to get the fuse block out of the way. I also had my rear fender and struts off for another mod at the same time. It does go out and in just go slow

It's a tight fit, and it's no easier if your back fender is still installed. Removing the tank is no fun, and getting it back in will be a little challenging too.

Remember, patience with this one. Lots of little things to get just right for it to slip into place correctly.

Thanks guys, I think I'll end up cutting the tiestraps inside the wiring harness to get it back in without as much of a fight.

Thanks!

Just did the same thing, take it easy unplug as much as you can and cut zip ties, I also removed the seat/ frame post to give me more room, lift up harness as far as you can ,lift tank and pull out and rotate towards the back at the same time ,should pull right out!
