I picked up a Softail at a swap meet a few weeks back. It was a Frankenbike and the price was right. 2000 Springer w/ a Fatboy front end. I ride an Electraglide that I still owe payments on, so being able to pay cash on this cheap bike was the way to get rid of payments once I sell it (soon I hope). It came with a God awful custom painted Heritage fender with a native American princess, and a two up factory seat. It had 13.5k miles on it and was involved in a wreck, which is why the previous owner put the Fatboy front end on it. I paid a little over 4 g's.

I have been wrenching away. Found a fender on Ebay, replaced the warped rotor disk, installed gear drive S&S cams, Mikuni 45, found a solo seat, swing arm bag, 3 1/2 " risers and today I found a spoked front wheel to replace that ugly solid Fatboy wheel. She is coming along. I should have the front wheel on tomorrow. This coming winter, remove golf ball sized dent in tank, repaint the tins, and 95 bolt on. I am starting to realize I could have almost paid off the touring bike, but the Softail is a lot more fun to ride.

 

Changed out the front wheel. Done for the year. Over the winter more displacement, fresh paint on the tins.

Amazingly I traded that fender for 1/2 off the $300 front wheel assembly.
