Default Largest Rim and Tire Combo on 02' FXSTI

Guys,

What is the largest rear rim size that I can go on a stock 02' FXSTI? The fender is about 7.25" wide. I believe there is a 3.0" on there now. Is it possible to upgrade to a 4.5" and run say a 160mm or 180mm tire without modifying anything else such as the swingarm, fender, pulley, belt, etc.?

Thanks....

I'm running a 150 Avon Cobra on a 16" solid disk rim on my 02 FXST and there's a pubic hairs amount of room in there. I'm not rubbing or bottoming out and never have but without modifying the fender or swingarm I can't imagine going any wider.

160/4.5 is about max without going to wider fender, and will require minor mods...and that is pushing it depending on tire brand. Several people have put a 200 on with the stock swingarm and factory parts, but you have cut the frame horns.

Thank you sir! What size width is your 16" rim? did you squeeze that 150 on the 3" stocker? Did you literally just mount the tire and ride out.. or did you have to do anything with axle spacers, belt clearance, etc. etc.? Exact info I was looking for... thanks again.

Thanks to you too Tom84FXST... not really looking to completely go for the fat tire look although I think it looks bad ***. Just want a little more meat on the road without having to go too crazy. I would be happy with a 150mm or a 160mm for a little while until I get the itch to modify the fenders and horn.

Same fender width and runnin a 4.25" with a 160 Dunlop Roadsmart Radial. I would not go wider. The fender has to be exactly centered and many are not. I have ~1/8-3/16" clearance at the top of fender on each side.

The rear wheel set up was already done when I bought the bike back in 2011. I don't have any other tech data for you unfortunately.
