Default 200mm Dunlop American Elite mileage

OK so who has the 200mm Dunlop American Elite rear tire on their bike?
And how is the mileage as compared to the stock Dunlop 200mm D407 rear tire?

I think I got about 4-5k on mine. I'll have to check the tread wear, but it appears to be doing ok.

You have to be diligent in chasing specs. Even Dunlop salesmen don't understand what they are selling. Not all tires in the same line are Multi-compound tread. I explain that to every Dunlop salesman I encounter. I have not tried other brands but so far I stick with the Michelin Commander II... or maybe they have a III now? Anyway, when I bought my last tire Dunlop still did not make a multi-compound 200 tire. The Michelin blows the Dunlops away for mileage. I think there is at least one other manufacturer that makes a multi-tread 200. I'm not positive for all brands, but if you see an MT in the tire designation, sometimes that means Motorcycle Tire, not Multi-compound Tread.

The 200mm Dunlop American Elite is a multi tread or multi compound tire.
The original Dunlop D407 200mm tire is not.

Why not try the Dunlop D401's 200/55/R17? It was stock on the Crossbones and I'm on my 3rd replacement since I bought my Bones new in 2008. I've consistently gotten over 12K miles out of each. I'm at 52K miles on my odometer but only on my 4th rear tire which still has plenty of tread! Do the math...

I had just over 2000 miles on my D407 and it was 3/4 gone. I had to replace it because of a nail. Again. Thank goodness for my extended warranty. I have about 4800 on my bike an I'm on my 3rd rear tire because I got a nail in the first 2. I'll probably get 7k out of the front.

I checked the latest online catalog and you are correct according to it. That is a recent change, I believe. The previous catalog had an asterisk next to that tire stating that it was not Multi-Tread. Because of the confusion I have concerns about the reliability of that information... in fact, at Bikeweek this year their paper catalog still had the asterisk.

Man...I wish I got that kind of mileage on that tire. I'm lucky to get over 7K. I tried another tire (forget which one) and got 3K out of it.

...and I'm not burnin out or aggressive. I'm ready for a 4th tire with 18K on the clock.

Hey _Brother,

I've heard this a lot and I've even been called a liar on here for my claims. After all this time on the forums, I consider myself pretty lucky. I get the impression that there are so many riders out there looking for that "magic tire" and here I am getting better results than I've yet to read about from my stock tires. Besides getting over 12K out of my rear tire I got over 32K out of my front and the only reason I changed it when I did is because I was going to go on a long trip and wanted fresh rubber up front. Otherwise I think it's safe to say that I could have gotten 3-4K more out of it. I'm currently only only my second front tire and it has all kinds of tread life on it.

Here's hoping everyone else finds something that works as well for them as my tires do for me!

P.S. I would like to pick your brain about that exhaust on your Bones. But we can do that in another thread or by PM so's not to spam this one!

Michelin Commander II is a no brainer.
