Default Installed apes on my Fatboy Lo - semi-rant

First, Ape **** <because you guys like pics>

I installed 3 sets of bars on my Road King and one set on my '00 Heritage and never had this many headaches. Why is installing bars such a voodoo science?

I bought:
- Wild 1 Outlawz 14"
- Burly 14" cable and wire kit (only comes in non-ABS)
- Magnum Shielding +8 upper brake line for ABS
- LA Choppers risers

Everything went fairly smooth. It was the normal pain in the *** to get the tank off due to the cross-over and getting a little gas leaking onto things. The Burly cables are quality stuff and they use Russell brake lines (even though I knew I wasn't going to use it).

I only wanted to install the upper brake line that goes from the master cylinder to the ABS module. The Magnum Shielding (black pearl) upper line arrived but it has a universal fitting at the end for the ABS module. The hard line with the banjo bolt is sold with the lower brake line assembly. How effing stupid is that? Easy enough fix as I bought a Goodrich banjo to 7/16" connector and lucky for me the brake line was 2" too long anyway. Cost me an extra $10.

I got the bars installed without drama and connected everything back up. I installed the tank and got everything buttoned up on Saturday. I saved the brake line for last (Sunday) and couldn't turn on the ignition because it would suck air into the ABS Module. I had to run to the dealer to get the Goodrich connector. Luck for me they do a lot of ape conversions.

I got the brake line installed and the front brakes bled (mighty vac, awesome). I turned the bike on to check everything. Nothing works from the left hand controls.
Lessons learned. Plan for more time than you think it will take. Expect the unexpected. ABS is a pain in the ***.

I feel your pain. I ordered the LA chopper kit when I did my 14" Apes. It was supposed to work for an ABS bike but did not. I sent it back and went with cables and universal brake line from Magnum Shielding. For my wire extensions I used the plug and play set from Namz. No wires to cut just plug on the extension and plug it in, Simple as that. When all the fun is over I hope you enjoy your new bars.

When vendors do unexplained things (ie: top banjo bolt with the lower kit, wire extension with no plug, etc) that drives me mad...especially when I discover it midway through a project, as you did.

On a high note, the bike looks pretty damn good with the new bars.

oh man! that sucks!!!! bars are a P.I.T.A. but sounds like this one is worse than normal. i know you were asking me what line i went with.... i originally ordered one from Hill Country Customs (Mfg #: HC-401561). but they sent the wrong one! it was the stock length!!! i ddint want to wait so i returned it and had a line made for me at a local hydraulics supply shop.
this is the one i originally went with, they make a lot of different sizes.

as far as the tank... i talked about what i did in my build thread, but i didn't have to have to take my tank off.... here's a little video to show it, there was plenty of room.
start watching from 0:20 to 3:07.

I agree with just sliding the tank back. So much easier and less of a mess.

Agree, could have just slid the tank back but I'm **** and wanted to ensure all of the wires were routed exactly as they were when stock.

I rode to work this morning and got some decent pictures. This is really my first ride after the install and I need to pull them back towards me about an inch.
