Default Do I need a different kind of steering stem?

2008 Softail Heritage
Took the original triple trees and forks out and am replacing it with a different set of triple trees. The stem on the original lower tree was a press fit plus a snap ring at the bottom. It the new one it slides in easily and snap ring should rest. on a collar(see the pic of the opening). But the diameter of the ring is way bigger. If I just put the ring outside the whole thing rocks a lot and also the stem id shorter by half an inch. Do I need a different type of stem or a different snap ring?

Default up side down

You have the bottom triple tree up side down on the pictures with them on the forks. I do not know about your steering stem, see the manufacturer on that. One of the two ends of your triple trees should be connected one way or another to the the steering stem so it does not move.

I don't doubt your expertise at all!. I am just confused myself. Still don't know what kind of retaining clip to use. If the stem slides all the way out and i put put a wider snap ring then the stem is shorter.
BTW what are those four openings(12,3,6,9) o'clock for?

Default Fork Stop

It is for the hour glass design neck that you have on your Softail and that is how you are able to install a hidden steering stop. They cost around $86 + $5.25 2 day shipping. Look at how I make my triple trees. Same steering stop but way different fork tube clamping system.

Please view the pic showing bottom.view. Some retaining thing has to go from the bottom and hold the neck of the stem. Plus something to secure it from the top as this stem is not a press fit and slides easily.
