Default Bypass I10 thru Houston

Good morning,

Best route to bypass I-10 thru Houston from San Antonio: Plan on taking hwy 6 to Galveston, Boliver Ferry, then roads to Winnie to I10 thru Orange.

Going to Lake Charles over Easter.

Your advise would be greatlyappreciated.

Walt

Take Beltway 8 if you want to bypass Houston. It's a toll road though, but better than doing I10.

If you want to pass on the tolls take 99 south at Katy from I 10, go north on 90A, pick up Hwy 6 to the south to I 45 across the causeway into Galveston. Hwy 6 is a nice ride but watch your speed, I saw two TxDPS working it hard on Sunday.

WJ, You can take hwy 6 from I-10 in Addicks and get to Galveston as you stated. Be warned, you will deal with a jillion traffic lights until you get past Alvin. Also watch your speed. The BW 8 around the southern perimeter of town is good highway but several $1.50 tolls to pay. The ride from Galveston to Winnie is pretty wide open and almost completely uninhabited. I make the run to Lake Charles a couple of times a year andI find that the worst part on I-10 is from Beaumont to the Sabine river. Lots of construction, big trucks, and people hauling a$$. Take your time and do it in daylight. BTW Goes Harley is in Angleton kinda close to that hwy 6route. Nice people, small town shop.

Izzy,

I agree with you...the stretch between Beaumont thru Vidor to Orange is really bad...

Do you have a route to skip that piece of I10?

Walter
