Yes I remember, I worked there for a couple of years in the mid 70's.

Uncle Adrian sold the shop when he got too old to run it and they moved out toward Lake Austin right beside my house. They ended up passing in the early to mid 90's. They used to let me help around the shop....and my aunt would play cards with me...I miss them. If you have any pics of the place...I would love to see them.
No pictures
Was your aunt and uncle Fred and Granny Kretchmar on E.1st St?
Fred would take me lunch occasionally at the Barbecue shop across
from Austin Toyota on 5th St.

Marshall,

I worked for Adrian and Mildred in 1973/74 as a mechanic. Seems like you lived there for a while during that period.
Maybe it was one of your cousins instead.
It was my first job in ATX and it was a lot of fun. We always performed our test drives out Bee Cave Road. Back then, once you
got past Zilker Park, and what would later become Loop 1, it was just a beautiful winding road through undeveloped forest.

Regards,

RP Watson

I remember driving by it, but never stopped for some reason. It was a couple of blocks from Barton Springs swimming hole and Zilker Park just down the road on the other side of Barton Springs. Back in those days, Matt's El Rancho Mexican Food was on 1st street, but moved in the late 70's or early 80's to South Lamar and are still there today.

I dealt with either Austin HD (Dan James) on Guadalupe for new bikes and parts, or HD Salvage (Gary King). The picture below is from an old archive. According to Dan James, the foundation for the building was reinforced with VL and older motorcycle frames. Unfortunately none of that area looks the same, And the building that housed Austin Motorcycle Salvage is long gone. Gary King moved to San Marcos and I believe still has a shop at his house. Either way, he was great HD mechanic and a really nice guy.
