Fuel line size

Fuel line size
I believe that the fuel line on my 87 sportster is 1/4 inch. I need to replace the fuel petcock. Harley oem is obsolete. I need a facing inward petcock. The cheap oem style I have found are right left or downward. The options are pingel or golan. They both seem to have 5/16 fuel outlets. So the question is do I put on a 5/16 inch fuel line on the carbs 1/4 inch nipple and just clamp it down? The other option is to get 1/4 inch fuel line and stretch it over the nipple on the petcock. This seems like a worse option. Neither is going to be right. Thoughts and comments please, John

There is another option if you're up for a small amount of work. CV Performance makes a high flow fuel inlet elbow that is made for 5/16" line.

No John that is just what is on the bike. I bought it new in 87 so I know it's original. It points straight through the jugs and the fuel line makes a very smooth bend to the carb inlet.
That high flow inlet would be the ticket. Those stock plastic elbows do fail. It comes with instructions to pull it although I've seen videos on utube for this as well. Thanks for the input, John

The petcocks on the later Ironheads, have you looked at those. Maybe 80-87?
Sounds like a nice bike for sure.

It's a 883. It has keihin butterfly. Yes it has a accelerator pump. Was thinking about installing the Andrews high flo accelerator pump kit. I may as well take it off install the brass 5/16 outlet, rebuild and install the Andrews kit.
I would never sell this bike. Bought it for $4480. $128.12 a month. Remember it like it was yesterday.
