Bearings from an 04 will definitely fit. I do this all of the time. You also need the inner spacer (crush sleeve)

You need to change the crush sleeve to match the bearings...so you'll need one for an 04. You can make one easily out of 1" tube with 3/4" id...or just buy one. You need to change the crush sleeve because of the smaller axle. The smaller 04 axle won't hold the sleeve in place and it can "fall". This will cause an uneven load against the bearing race causing premature failure.

Ok cool i called harley and the crush sleeve is $7!!! thats great. Would i be able to take the crush sleeve of my 04 rim and put it on the 08? just to verify so the internal diamiters on the rims are the same the only diff it that the chrush sleeve and bearings are different?

That's not a bad idea but to check length instead of diameter. The length is the only variable that can change. If you're using 04 bearings with 04 crush sleeves and an 04 axle...I'd say you can trust the diameters will match.

Since 2000 all HD wheel bearings have the same od. They just changed the bearing id for whatever reason through the years.
