Default Forty Eight Spring Seat

Like the look of the springer seat that HD offers for the forty eight. PN 54373-10 (in black). Was ready to pull the trigger on it when I realized it also needs the mounting kit. PN 54074-10A.

Total bill for this mod is $530.00 (plus any tax or shipping...) Yikes.

Has anyone figured out a more economical alternative?

I have this seat on my 48 it is Great! Looks fantastic and is much smoother riding than stock. The stock seat relies upon the foam, this one upon the springs and foam. I also installed SG Air Shocks to help smooth out the ride.
Price is Harley Tax like many other items the Moco sells.
I think it really compliments the look of the 48.

They pop up used occasionally for around half the price but yes, buying everything new is high $$$. I had one for a while and didn't like it personally.

A more affordable option would be something like one of our Solo Seat Systems and Leather kit.

We offer 4 different types of suspension. We have found that the barrel springs have the most amount of travel, and tend to be more comfortable.

You can see more on those at this LINK.

We also offer a couple of different leather cover options.

HERE is one of the standard leather kits:

If you are looking for even more cushion and comfort, you can check out THIS option.

I too went with the HD seat out of ignorance of the many alternatives available.

Take the time to look around before you spend the money on HD... Nothing wrong with what HD offers, just that there is a lot more out there to select from.

Here are a few:

DK (see previous post). Great folks to buy from.

I went the LaRosa Design route...16" BaSick solo saddle with conversion kit and 3" barrel springs. Some don't think you should have a spring seat with shocks but the ride is quite a bit better with both.

^ Some think the last real jeep (TJ) was made in 06 but plenty have been sold after that. Some think a crossbow is a cheaters way to kill a deer during bow season.... the list goes on.

I buy what I like.

I agree.

I have stock shocks and solo police seat with 5" barrel springs, the smoothest solutions I ever have tried on my Sportster.

I made my own bracket, from flat iron, bought at the local DIY shop, for a mere 20 $.

Cool

I should stop looking... Harley came out with this Bobber Solo Saddle (Part Number 52000180)

Looks amazing!!! And I could use it with my current spring set up or like above, without the springs (requires a different mount kit for that...)

I sent an email to HD to see if they are coming out with a distressed brown version... I don't want to have to change the bags to black just to match the seat... I hope they do come out with a brown version as I want to keep the brown saddlebags.

If they don't, I will get one from the same place that I got the bags, LaRosa Designs. The previous post gave me the idea to make my own bracket if I can't make the one I have work with some of the aftermarket alternatives.

A photo of my current setup, still happy with it but there is always that itch to change stuff...

yeah looks great but it's like $500 USD when you buy the seat and on top of that... a seperate mounting kit. I really would like one though.
