Default Isn't a Sporster a V-Twin

I've read through a couple post about 'Sporsters' and a common theme is "Mr V-Twin" thinks they stink. Isn't a Sporster a V-Twin? I got a 2007 1200C Sportie and I swore the spec or manual says its a V-Twin. Am I missing something? Or, is it because they have a bigger V-Twin?

Thanks for enlightening me!

Of course it's a V-twin. Some people don't like Sportsters but who cares? The Sportsters have smaller motors but they are also just as quick if not quicker than the bigger more bloated bikes (except the V Rod which actually has a smaller motor than your new 1200)

Yes they are, but so is a Honda VTX1300. It's the size of the Sporty that people are picking on. Sporty's are great bikes. Don't let them get to you. It's a Harley and it's worth every penny you spent on it if you are happy.

The key is riding and liking the bike you ride...everything else is BS....

Is there really a dude who calls himself MR.V-TWIN He sounds like a real ballbreaker.V-Twin is just the name of the cylinder configuration of a certain type of engine and the sportster is most definitively a V-Twin.

Hell yes, V (shape), Twin (2 cylinders). Its just that a irrelevant minoritysattempt to coin the term asHarley's top dog 88ci (now a 96ci).

It makes me fustrated when I order parts. They list the part avaliable for sportsters and V-twim. With v-twin meaning the bigger bikes. Arrrgg

Thanks everyone!

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE MY BIKE!!! I just spent most of the day riding it. After gaining 120 pound over 10 years of not riding. I can't believe there is a bike that allows me to ride at my stature/weight and enjoy it, and has a lot of power. The bike handled great on the freeway, I felt slow riding the bike felt a little top heavy. I maybe confusing the feeling, it just doesn't handle like the sport's bikes I used to ride where you have your face all bent over and my gut on the tank doesn't feel right.

I just wanted to know what everyone was talking about when making fun of the Sporster all the posts said the "V-Twin" guys always make fun of the Sporster. My bike is fun, can cut corners, and allows me to ride the style I'm used to (aggresive leans) at my new weight/stature.

Thank you H-D!

The sportster is a v-twin and has 4 cams. Glad you enjoy the bike, and no it does not handle like a regular sport bike. Sportsters have thier own distinct handling properties and are very fun to ride, due to thier power to wieght ratio and torque.. Enjoy your new bike and if someone has a problem with it, who cares it's yours ... Ride safe ..Mark...
