Default Tuning Advice

I'm thinking I'd like to put a stage 1 AC on my '09 Nightster. I just got it and it already had V&H slip ons. I haven't decided on the AC setup yet, but it seems the best option - biggest bang for the buck is the $145 version, but whichever, tuning is involved. My stealer wants big money to put a single tune on it to accommodate an AC. For potentially a one time deal, what is my best bang for the buck on tuning? An independent or a tuner, then which one? I have to say the price is high regardless for not a lotta return, huh? Thanks!

A lot of people have good results with IED's which DK Customs sells. I have them on my 08 Nightster (have a build thread with reviews). DK also has some very affordable and better performing intakes rather than the SE Stage 1. Most upgrade their SE with a K&N filter which is another $60. As far as more in depth tuning it depends on your goal and if going to get custom dyno tune. I would find local tuners and see what they use. If/When I upgrade I'm probably going with the Power Vision with Autotune from FuelMoto. Have great reviews from other members on here.

Thanks SoulArmored!

Yes, we have a good line of Air Cleaner Systems, all different looks, and they will out-perform the SE A/C's, and your engine will last longer also.

DK A/C Systems Link

As far as tuners, there are MANY options and Many opinions. There is a good thread on the forum that gives an objective overview of the most popular options, you can see it at this link-

Of the dozens of options, we chose what we believe to be the best budget tuner and the best full-featured performance tuner, you can read more about them at this LINK

Thanks for the in-a-nutshell view. I needed that direction!

I've had XIED's on both my 07 883 Custom and a 14 1200 Custom.
The XIEDs worked great on the 07 but sucked donkey ***** on the 2014 Custom.
Bought the 2014 XIEDs from DK (great customer service) but the late model version needed more tweaking.
Spoke to Steve from NightRider several times, and could never get them dialed in correctly.
Installed Fuel Moto Micro EFI for a few dollars more ($199)then the XIEDs, and it made a world of difference.
About a two beer install time, free unlimited maps and support from FM, and free basic shipping for Military & Veterans.
Screw the dealer, call FM and order their Micro EFI. Comes pre-loaded for your setup and has 10 map storage capacity.

Another big Thumbs Up to DK Custom's Intake with FuelMoto's Micro EFI.
I went through several AC's and tuners before dialing it in with this combo.

Before I bought the powervision I was looking at Vigilante supertuner. At that time it was $169 on amazon, It's now $190. I found a good deal on PV and went for it. Super tuner is a true tuner and not a piggy back, it flashes your ECM and your done with it. One member here used it for the basic set up, like the slip ons and a performance AC and he was happy.

I like the PV even in Basic mode as the best solution. Add an A/C on to that and you have a $6-$800 air cleaner! Yeah!

Add your favorite A/C and the Fuel Moto Micro EFI for well under $400.
