Made a bit more progress on the 48 today. Pictures are not so great. Still icy outside...hopefully it will thaw out soon! Looking at the weather, another 2 inches of snow and ice tomorrow.
Here's a pic of the Short Shots with the heat shields on.
We wanted to get rid of the plastic reflectors, plastic plate bracket, and turn signals sticking out from the fender struts.
First thing was to take off the rear fender. 5 bolts and feed the wires thru.
Fender off-
Deleted plastic-
That's better-
Next we installed an LED strip that works as Running Lights, Brake Lights and Turn Signals. But when the ignition is not on, you are hard pressed to see that there any lights mounted anywhere on the back end of the bike.
Here it is, back installed, and brakes on. We are really liking this little mod!
Getting rid of all those wires and getting the bolts shaved down, we should be able to lower this and not have any problems with the tire hitting the wires or protruding bolts!

We also tried to find a plug n play kit....could not. So we had this one custom made for us.
If it passes our torture test, we will get a bunch more made up and it won't be the convoluted install process that a few companies wanted us to go thru to install a simple run-brake-turn, or brake-turn strip.

The bike is coming along nicely! Good job.
Ain't that the truth. Why is it tha NO ONE sells pre-made extensions and pigtails for HD turn signals and tail lights. I'm constantly left soldering, splicing and Posa-locking stuff.
I finally bought crimpers (at great expense) to make my own wiring. I'd gladly pay for extensions and pigtails.

It is STILL icy here. Yesterday I rode home in this stuff (on the Tri-Glide, not a 2 wheeler)-
We had 5 inches of snow, and it is still an icebox outside...so we still have no outside pics of the 48 with the recent changes.
Today we did a few more things-
1. Lowered it in the rear by 1.75". Normally the max lowering a 48 can have is 1". But we got rid of all the normal wiring, and also made sure there were no bolt ends sticking out to gouge the tires on a hard bump.
2. Installed the Plate Relo, with a Bolt/LED plate light in the upper left. Can't really see the bolt/light in the pics below, because I only took one with the light on, and it is just a glare.
3. Did some test fitting on a couple of new products coming down the pike.
4. We then went to install some drag bars...pulled everything apart, got the bars on, got the speedo ready for relocation............
We picked the bars we did, cause we like the profile, but we did not think ahead, and have a clearance issue. Risers would fix it, longer bars would fix it.
Problem is that we don't want to go higher and we don't want to go wider. Kicked around a bunch of ideas, trying to make the impossible happen easily and quickly.
In the end we decided higher is better than wider. Called Loner Industries and we should have some 48 risers here next week.
Here are a couple to see what it looks like from the side with the reflectors gone, lowering blocks installed and Plate Relo installed.
In the pic above, you can see we had a plug that fit one of the strut cover holes. We will be picking up more plugs for the other 3 holes.
Here's a pic from behind, brake lights on-
Here's a pic of the Bolt/Light that is in the upper left of the pic above-
I hope the LED R-B-T holds up, it is really quite a nice mod. Some time will tell, as soon as we can get out on the road a bit.
Still have a lot more coming!
