Hey what do you use to cover your air cleaner in the rain? I have the hammer performance air cleaner but run the stock ham can currently as I am looking for an option to keep the rain out as I find myself riding in the rain more than many folks around here.

I don't have anything to cover it with. I asked them at Hammer Performance if they sell a rain sock for it when I bought it because I also ride in the rain from time to time and was told that it doesn't "need" one and that they "have ridden in torrential downpours with the naked air cleaner and the bike never missed a beat" to quote their exact words.

They just said that I will have to oil it again after riding in the rain. I find myself having to oil this air cleaner about once a month either way otherwise it starts letting in dirty air. I was thinking of trying to find one that will fit the 3" element but haven't really searched very hard for one yet.

I got caught in a torrential downpour last summer. Anytime I turned the throttle more than about 1/8-1/4, the engine would bog down. Never stalled though. The way it was raining, I didn't need much throttle anyway, but it was obviously taking in water.

Thanks for the insight. That was what worried me. I think I will leave the stock cover on for awhile longer. The folks over at Hammer told me that the bike is getting all the air it needs with their filter and backing plate and that the cover would just be for looks. I love the look of the hammer face plate though but ride in way to much rain to want to deal with those sort of issues.

If you can find a synthetic material filter, that may help. My Arlen Ness Deep Cut Inverted Big Sucker uses a synthetic filter. According to Arlen Ness, Synthetic filters are water resistant eliminating the need for a rain sock. Otherwise, find a rain sock that fits your AC.
