Default Nightster closed loop EFI & Pipes

I know this subject is old and tired but I thought it was interesing that in the Nightster review in last months Cycle World stated that the Nightster EFI system was a closed loop system with an O2 sensor in each pipe, and went on to say that pipe changes would most likely not require a change on the intake side. I took this to mean a remapping as it indicated the "system" would readjust itself..... So am I reading into this that I should not worry if I change slip-on's... Of course that is what I wanted to read into it ;-).....

That's how I'm reading it as well. If it's just slip-ons you are OK. If you put a full system on or change/modify the air cleaner then you have to re-map. I'll let you know tomorrow, I have a set of Rinehart slip-ons on the way. I'm just going to run it with the slip-ons only and see how it goes. If I need to re-map I'll do it later.

The dealer told me that Screamin Eagle slip-ons would not require a remap, but all other slip-ons would [:@]. Kind of hard to believe.

Reading between the lines I interpret the dealer as saying this...................."Only buy Harley brand parts from a Harley dealer, have them installed at the Harley dealership, and you'll be OK, and your Harley warranty will still be covered!"

Having said that, there may be some truth in the statement. The '07 SE slip ons arestreet legal in 48 states, they aren't much louder/better than stock. But they are still just Slip On mufflers with baffles, and not a full systemor wide open pipes. I ordered Rinehart slip on MUFFLERSwith baffles which can't be all that different from the SE MUFFLERS with baffles, offering similar back pressures. From what I have read, closed loop EFI systems can make minor adjustments only and work within a small range. So any modifications beyond basic slip ons would require a re-map. The O2 sensors areoff the header pipesand measure A/F ratiosbefore the mufflers so I don't think there should much difference.Time will tell.

I think that the 2007 models are that way.... closed loop and EFI now...

I have the XL50,2007, obviously..... and will be installing V&H slipons this weekend at a local HD dealer..... also putting on a Arlen Ness, Round,Billet/stage II air filter system, with the Scalloped chrome cover.... Should look sweet..... Having a HD download done as well.....

I hope all goes well.... i will be sending out a thread with info and report on how things went, along with my new pix as well...

stay tuned...

here is the before pix.....

So a full exhaust WILL require a re-map?

Yes, re-map, tuner, O2 eliminators, dyno time, etc.

Ugh. Doesn't seem worth it.

Might follow your lead and go with slip-ons.
