Google that damn stuff for the specs and quit being ****.
I and many others have run Rotella in motorcycles for years. I have over 50,000 miles on a Kawasaki 1600 running the stuff in Texas heat.

Most of us just use a good 20/50 motorcycle oil. The only oil you really don't want to use is one marked energy conserving.
Okay good to know thank you

Just no "Energy Conserving" oil. Valvoline or Castrol 20/50 motorcycle oil can be found at most auto parts stores.

I bought the Castrol 20/50 oil that you recommended. $6 a quart. I also found a trick on here I think DK customs said about getting the filter off. He used tin foil to shove in there and create a little drain. It worked perfectly because you can mold it to what you want.

Thanks for the help every one

Cool. Save the tin foil for the 1000 oil change. By then you can probably go with the Synthetic 15W-50 Mobil that Scuba showed you above.

Energy conserving is fine as long as you dont use it in your primary. Motorcycle oil is not needed (and a waste of money) unless your putting in your primary, and even then its not needed and a waste of money

Idk what you mean by primary. I just put it in where the motor oil goes. I didn't change the tranny oil

I'm with him, I only use a good quality 20/50 V-Twin Motorcycle oil. Why take a chance with a non-approved oil in your Harley, makes no sense to me. But, as always, YMMV.

They won't listen.

I'll tell you this... In Canada, a lot of our vehicles are the same as your vehicles, Hardley included. For some reason, you guys are hooked on synthetic, with many manufactures spec'ing only that. The same vehicles here are spec'd with Dino. Ford, Harley, etc.

I can't figure this out, since up North, it's really cold, and cold starts are tough on an engine.

The only thing I can figure, is that synthetic oil potentially has a longer lifespan in use, with additives and whatnot, but with the 3,000 mile oil change myth still alive and well, I don't see people extending their intervals either. Not here, nor there.
