building a seat for the 48
I just ordered the biltwell sporty 8 solo seat raw foam, im going to cut off 1/2" from the top because I don't want to add any height to the seat & put the saddleman saddlegel seat pad on top and have it covered in a thick soft black leather. rebuild should all be done in a couple of weeks. the biltwell sporty seats are cool seats but they only make them with ugly stitching patterns so I have to build my own with a smooth top. hopefully the addition of the gel pad will be a little more softer also. I will post picks.

ok, so I got the biltwell sporty 8 seat and the saddleman jell pad this week. my plan is to cut out the foam inside the same depth as the jell pad and refill it with the jell pad. I dont want to put it on top of the foam because I don't want the seat to be any higher, just softer...then i'll cover it with some thick leather.
hopefully it comes out nice. so far the cost is only $125

The stock seat on the Forty Eight is horrible. I wouldn't use it as a foundation for anything either. I tried to repack mine, add padding and recover. Nothing helped make it more comfortable. I gave up and got a Mustang Tripper.
To OP, are you making the cover yourself? I stitched up a new cover for mine when I tried to make the padding more comfortable and it wasn't too hard. I just used the original for a pattern and cut new panels. Only took a few hours.

I am, I read the gel heats up a little sitting in the direct sun. I was thinking a thick piece of felt on top
