Thanks Chris, I wish I had the money to do everything at once, but whatever... All in good time.
I love the way Fred chopped the struts, I never would have thought to do that if I hadn't seen his bike. I can't wait to see his all put back together. He's done some amazing things to that one for sure.
This is what the bike looked like while painting the fender struts. I painted all the way down to the engine mount to make sure the paint matched, on the rear end at least.

So I started building a really basic pulley cover. Getting a 5" outside diameter perfectly round is not that easy.
I laid it out on a piece of 16g steel and used my 4.25 angle grinder to rough it out and used my metal rasp to take it down. Then I used my bench top belt sander for the final passes to round it out.
The inside diameter was drawn on with a socket and roughed out with several drill holes and a Dremel cutoff wheel. I finished shaping with the rasp again.
I hand sanded everything and put on several coats of gloss black paint. I have spacers to hold the sprocket retainer and I'm putting stainless mess behind the inside hole and two additional apposing stainless Allen bolts just for looks.
Will have to wait until paint dries to assemble.
