NADA or KBB trade value. That’s what I’ve found most people will pay for a private seller bike. Much more than that and they will head to the dealership.
So I have been out of the sportster realm for years now. I sold my 2006 1200c in 2009, and have not been back since. This past weekend I made a trade that ended with me having a 2008 1200 low as seen in the pics below. Sharp bike, really clean, 19k miles. Has two brand new tires, vance and hines slip ons, a few cosmetic mods, and the black wheels. I do not need it, and my wife refuses to learn to ride it.....so I am going to sell it. What do you guys think I could reasonably get for it? I am in Southern Illinois, I have seen comparable bikes anywhere from 4800-7000 listed, not saying that they are selling for that, thats just list price.
Thanks for your help!
Harley Davidson here has an 08 Custom with fatty tires 14K Asking $7900. I paid $6200 for my 11 with 4K miles privately.

I'd make sure to push down the oil dipstick before posting for sale pics. (That's my OCD moment for the day.)
Nice looking bike, btw.
Yeah I noticed that after I took the pic. The solo seat has been modified a bit to move the rider forward....me being 6'1" and 240 though everytime I get on it my leg expands the dipstick.....
it is just me or have the sportsters really come down in value? I don't think they hold their value like they used to, the market must be flooded with them.. 3 years ago when I was shopping for them about all you could get for under $4000 was a pre-2004 rigid mount. now ones only a few years old are selling for under $6k..
You might be onto something. Trying to peddle my 2013 Sportie Super Lo 883 with less than 4,000 miles. Bags, windshield, Mustang seat, luggage rack, gear indicator, oil temp gauge. Never dropped. Asking $8K (expecting $7,500) but not a nibble.
