Have access to a solvent cleaning station? I'd imagine it's a rather messy job.

How do reusables work? Where do they come from? How long do they last?

Yep, sounds messy.

I think the reusable filters are supposed to last virtually forever. Or, until you get tired of cleaning them.

DK customs sells them, I think. So do others.

Clean the filter element, spring and housing with solvent, kerosene, contact/break cleaner or any degreasing agent. The easiest most common way to clean it would be using dish soap and water. Hope this helps you out

When you are ready for a oil change you would simply just clean the filter you already have, if you have a Cleanable Oil Filter, it is many different ways to clean them, most common is dish soap and water. The Cleanable Oil Filter is the last oil filter that you will need. You can see more Cleanable Oil Filter and information at the link below.

I've been using permanent oil filters on my HD's and sport bikes for years now, this is how I've been cleaning them:

Disassemble, wipe down the billet housing and spring with a soft cloth, inspect the quad ring for any damage, I can get 6 or 7 changes before I swap them out. Take the stainless filter element and spray it from the inside out with brake cleaner, I use the non-chlorinated brake cleaner and after spraying it out I inspect the filter pleats for any debris, push cycle the check ball at the base of the element to be sure the cleaner is drained out then set it on a slight angle so it can fully dry. After a couple of minutes I reassemble and lightly lubricate the quad ring and reinstall on the bike.
