Default 2001 1200 custom tank/filter/fuel position switch ??

I didn't pay enough attention to the in tank filter position when I took the tank off for paint. Which side of the petcock does the filter hose go into. I'm assuming that one side is regular "on" and the other is reserve. Any help would be much appreciated.

Got a pic? Sounds like you have a vacuum petcock. one side is fuel and the other is engine vacuum.

It shouldn't be a hose but a tube. The tube goes into the main on position (not reserve)
The screen should cover both holes.
Remove the petcock, and blow into the outlet side with the petcock in the on (main) position. Which ever hole that the air flows out of, is where the tube goes in

Thanks Hal. The outlet has a nice neat crimped clamp that I didn't want to remove but I'd much rather do that than run out of gas thinking that I have reserve when I don't.
