How's it going guys so I recently bought a 2009 nightster and my Bestfriend bought a 2010 Iron 883. Today on the way home from our ride his bike started acting up once we got home I test drove it and here is what is happening.

The bike won't shift up to 3rd gear it just seems stuck but after a while on second and trying and trying it shifts to third but then it gets stuck again and won't shift back down to 2nd and gets stuck there as well. The rest of the gears shift perfectly fine from 1st to second and from 3rd to 4th and 5th it's just the transition from 2nd and third.

How many miles on it? Could be the Spring Plate going out. Try adjusting it and drain oil look for any debris in oil. Pretty common problem.

 

Thanks for the response Outtakes it's only got 1900 Miles it's a 2010 that was garage kept. Is there any DIY for that fix I'm sorry it's our first bikes so we don't know a lot yet.

 

I would get the factory manual if you don't have one. Start with a fluid change and clutch adjustment first. Pretty early for a Spring Plate to go out. Pick up a QT of Formula Plus for the Primary at the Dealer. Check the Primary Chain Adjustment while your in there.
