Default Thinking of Trading the 48

I got an e-mail from the dealership here and they are offering me retail value for my bike in trade. I really like a 2015 Wide Glide they have now and am considering it. I know you guys are Sportster fanatics as am I but that Wide Glide sure looks sweet! What are your thoughts? Ill post some pics later today of the Wide Glide when I go back to the dealership.

Hey BO, how've you been?

Guess what, I was at the dealer last weekend looking at the breakouts and the street bobs and the salesman is telling me about this full msrp offer on my 48 and tells me he will email me the flyer. He didnt and I started searching on the net but the only info I found was that in 2009 if you bought a new sportster within one year they will give you full msrp for trading with a big twin.
So what details you have on this?

This is the add they sent me. The dealership here in Santa Fe NM is having an event this weekend and sent me the e-mail with this along with other adds. I'm going back today to speak with them about it. If this is true they will be giving me about $9200 for my bike, which is what it retails at.

The whole Funa family is a nice progression from the Sportster. Traditional shocks, smaller envelop than the Softails.

I had a Street Bob and really liked the bike, but some things you should know about the differences.

The Twin Cam engine is more complex, and has less character than the Evo Sportster motor. They have a few more inherent issues.

The bikes, although similar is style, are much heavier. About 150lbs heavier. They are longer and have less lean angle too. The WG in particular is even longer due to the added rake.

Overall, it's a great platform, but it isn't as nimble as the Sportster. It is however a much better bike for highway riding due to the added weight and wheelbase. Obviously it holds more fuel too.

the wide glide are only about 100 pounds more, it's very little difference when sitting on the bike, wide glide is a nice bike but it's very similar to a sportster custom, it feels much the same. really good as a solo bike only.

the twin cams are a bit smoother running motors. wide glides are pricey bikes but that is a good offer. you might want to put the wide glide side by side with a low rider. the low rider is more bike for the money but the wide glide has more rake & nicer bars, bigger front wheel & maybe wider forks.

SLV, good info...except I think SB has the best lean angle in whole HD family.

I am going to test drive it and see how it goes.

562# for the 48
583# for the WG

Some may not notice it, but I do. Having owned Dynas and Sportsters, I feel a difference.

Just stuff to consider. The WG is still a nice bike.

So after some talking back and forth with the dealer I finally decided to keep the 48. I really like that Wide Glide but I put a lot of work and money into my 48 and want to keep it. Maybe after a while I will be able to afford to get a second bike so I don't have to trade. Thanks for the comments and information everyone!

that's smart, there really isn't much difference between the 2 at all.. I'm sure if you did trade you'd miss the 48. over on the Dyna board they call 2005 & earlier wide glide "real wide glides" because Harley changed them so much.
