I'm kind of in the same boat. I rode a bike 25 years ago, as a teen-it was my only mode of transport. I showed some interest in riding last month, my buddy is selling his 07 sportster, and said he'd sell it to me for the remaining money on the loan (ie: CHEAP). I couldnt resist. I got my permit last week, went and test drove it yesterday, in a huge parking lot. It was absolutely gorgeous out-except there, where it started raining after 10 minutes!!!
He's gonna drive it up to my house next week, so I can play around on it here. I feel like a kid on Christmas!!!

Nice Sportster, OP. Very nice.

I was in a somewhat similar situation when I bought my Sportster in May 2014. I had not gotten my permit yet, so I had to have the bike delivered to my garage. Got the permit the next day though.

You will love your Sportster and nothing wrong with it stock. I've been loving mine.

That's a real nice looking ride I bought basically the same bike in March. I'm a beginner to from Canada so to get what they call a learners license I had to pass a Government sanctioned safety coarse. I passed that on May 4th so now on my learners I can only ride solo in daylight hours with no alcohol in my system for a length of 9 months then take a drivers test for a full license. Enjoy your new bike.

I really appreciate all of the support.

I had another night in my parking lot of figure eights and big circles (ovals?). I'm dying to get out on the road but honestly, kind of happy just to have a few days to myself, playing in the safety and privacy of my own parking lot. The bike really seems to want to go. It will be nice when I can. That'll come. Right now I'm just waiting to coordinate a connection with one of my buddies who can ride with me.

The only mod I see in the near future is a new saddle. I like the look of a solo seat so hopefully that won't be too far off. Big choice, black or brown? Hmmmm.

It's great to hear stories so similar to mine. Sometimes I think I'm a little crazy for jumping in this deep without a license but sometimes a little crazy isn't a bad thing, keeps life interesting.
