RE: synthetic or regular???
They charge an extra $50 for the difference between 4 quarts of regular fluid and 4 quarts of synthetic fluid??
That comes out to an extra $12.50 for each quart if you want synthetic oil....
Just amazing (in a bad way)..... [8D]
Just one more reason why I don't have dealers service my bikes.
But to answer your question, I like synthetic and use a good 20W-50 year around...
But Harley ownersspend way to much timefretting about the type of oilthey put in their engines.
As long as you change the oil and filter frequently your engine will be perfectly happy. My Shovelhead has had nothing in it but straight 50 weight oil (since day one), and it has gone over 80,000 miles without anyoil related problem. I know guys thatchange their oil and filter every 3,000 to 4,000 miles, and dump just about anything, and have never had an oil related problem.
Most peopledon't realize it, and just run a synthetic 20W-50all year, but Harley themself recommend using a SAE 50 weight oil if the temperature is above 60 degrees, and a SAE 60 weight oil if the temperature is above 80 degrees, and that is for their newer EVO and TC engines.

It's not worth the $50.00 difference. Let them put regular oil in it, and then when you get home, drain the regular stuff, save it for your lawnmower, and buy some synthetic MC oil for about $8 to $10 a quart and put that in it yourself.
Some HD dealers really know how to gouge; don't they.

They hold 4 quarts now?
I got to get out of the woods more often on my '98.

Go with the dino oil for the service and do your next oil change yourself with synthetic.
If you're not confident changing your own fluids you might want to look at the fix my hog dvd.
I letmy dealer do the 1000 miles service but everything else I do myself unless there's a warranty issue.
